Newcomers to Las Vegas are expected to hit the main strip, while veteran travelers always make sure to stop by Fremont Street. “Old Vegas” attractions include the SlotZilla and world-famous showgirls, but the Golden Nugget hotel and casino stands above all. The largest casino in the downtown area is still a top destination for every thrill-seeker.
With over 2,000 guest rooms and suites, the Golden Nugget has more than enough room to accommodate visitors. The Nugget is well-known for its incredible gambling atmosphere as it is one of the oldest casinos in Vegas; originally built in 1946. Besides the obvious attractions and huge welcoming sign, there is plenty to do inside the Nugget. Here are two features that must be seen to be believed:
Arguably the biggest attraction inside this famous casino has nothing to do with gambling. The Tank is a world-class pool and relaxation center. While the pool and bars are awesome, it’s what is near the pool that is the real entertainment. A 200,000-gallon shark tank aquarium sits right next to the pool. That’s right, you can really swim next to the sharks. Even better – you can actually go down a waterslide alongside the shark tank. Routinely ranked as one of the most scenic pools in the world, The Tank has a well-earned reputation for fun and excitement.
Swimming is open every day from 9am-7pm.
The Golden Nugget hotel and casino is also home to several fine dining choices, including Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse, Chart House, and Grotto Ristorante. Vic & Anthony’s is often picked as the best option the Nugget has to offer. This restaurant is routinely voted one of the top Steakhouses in the area. While the food is pricy, it is nothing outrageous for Vegas tourists. The menu offers a delicious selection of steaks, seafood, and chicken. On most nights, patrons are encouraged to stop by the restaurant lounge an hour before it opens to enjoy pre-dinner cocktails.
Dinner is served every night from 5-11pm.
